La Colmena, Honduras

In the rural village of La Colmena, 47 students attend kindergarten and primary school at the Escuela and Cepreb La Colmena.  The school originally operated in an adobe house, and then in a makeshift structure of wooden posts and a blue tarp roof.  There was no electricity or septic system at the school.

In 2012, SCW: Honduras designed and built a new school for the community of La Colmena!   This is the fourth SCW school to be sponsored by the Yibrin family of Honduras.  The new school facilities include one classroom, 2 bathrooms, and a septic tank.  Construction began in December 2011 and was completed in March 2012!  In February 2012, an SCW volunteer team spent 3 days in La Colmena and worked with the community to build a beautiful new playground.
