An SCW team of 18 North Americans and 7 Hondurans traveled to Santa Cruz de Yojoa in July 2011 for an incredible week!  Throughout the week, this team worked in two groups: a construction group and a Special Needs Center group.

The Special Needs Center team, made up of leading professions from the US and amazing local volunteers, assessed over 300 students and facilitated several teacher training workshops during the week.   They also made great strides towards the creation and construction of a sustainable Special Needs Center by swearing in the new Board of Directors, meeting with the Minister of Education in Tegucigalpa, and appearing in an interview on the national news.   Two Honduran architecture students also spent the week with this team and came up with a great design for the future center. Learn more about this project.

The Construction Team also had a very productive week.  They completed a renovation project at Las Brisas del Campo, a one classroom school in Santa Cruz de Yojoa.  At this school, the team painted the building and built a playground for the students.  The construction team also built a playground at Las Minas, an SCW school that is currently under construction in Villanueva.  This young team had a great time and made amazing connections with the local children as they painted and played together.

A big thank you to everyone who made this trip such a success!  We hope to see you again next year.
